Competition is the inevitable outcome of market economy. Whether in the Westerndeveloped countries, which have already established a nature market-economy system, or inChina that is still constructing a socialist market economy system, competition from variousfields is now becoming increasing intensified now. The study on the theory ofcompetitiveness started to take place only recently, but the prospect of its development ispromising. There have appeared studies of a variety of competitiveness, such as studies oncompetitiveness of a country, an industry, a city or an enterprise, etc.With tourism becoming the biggest industry around the world, the related studies oncompetitions in tourist trade have gained much attention at home and abroad. But theresearches on competitive power of urban tourism just take its first step and need developing.In order to enrich this field, the author makes exact definitions of urban tourism andcompetitive power of urban tourism and makes deep researches on affecting factors,structures, function and evolution phases, through consulting many data abroad and domesticand applying the basic theories and methods of economics, urban science, tourism science andsustainable development. An index system of competitive power of urban tourism is set upbased on certain principles. AHP method is selected to evaluate competitive power of threecities Shenyang, Changchun, and Ha'erbin. The author compares competitive power ofChangchun tourism with the other two cities' from several levels to find out the problems ofChangchun tourism and proposes the measures to improve competitive power of Changchuntourism.The thesis paper consists of five parts.The first part is introduction, which aims at explaining the reasons for selection subjectand the significance of the study and providing a brief survey of the related studies at homeand abroad. The author concludes development of research on competitive power of tourismand puts forward three problems in the reach of competitive power of tourism in China.The second part deals with the theoretical basis of the study. The author carries outinterpretation from two aspects, the theories of competition and tourism destinations.The third part is to analyze competitive power of urban tourism systematically and createan index system of it. Firstly, the basic concepts of urban tourism are defined. Based on using"diamond" model of E. point, the author sets up a model of "competitive power of urbantourism" model. Then the author analyzes six affecting factors of competitive power of urbantourism, such as resources, economic conditions, science and technology, talented person oftourism, tourism demand and classifies the factors, Based on those effect, the model of"structure of competitive power of urban tourism" is created, in which economic functions,social functions and cultural functions and mechanism of operating power are made aninquiry into. And the author sums up the characteristics of four competitive stages. At last, theauthor further probes on the principles, and contents of evaluation, creates a theory-indexsystem. AHP method is selected as a key method to evaluate competitive power of urbantourism.Part Four is a case study. In this part, the competive power of Changchun is evaluated onthe basis of the theory index system and availability of indexes, through the comparison ofChangchun tourism with with Shenyang and Ha'erbin tourism from the aspects of competitiveachievements and potential competitive power, supporting power of tourism environment andcomprehensive competitive power of urban tourism. Then four problems happening in thedevelopment of Changchun tourism are found. To solve the problems, four correspondingmeasures of improving competitive power are put forward at last.Part Five is conclusion. The author concludes that to enhance the tourismcompetitiveness of the cities is significant for improvement of our tourist industry in theworld market.
