With development of e-business and improvement of people's living standard, the express delivery services have been greatly needed by enterprises and individuals increasingly, which brings great opportunity for the development of Chinese express delivery industry. So far from 2008, the business volume of Chinese express delivery market increases by 25% a year, and the private express delivery enterprises, by dint of its economical and reasonable price and flexible business mode, is a new force suddenly rising from Chinese express delivery industry. Meanwhile, Chins fulfilled its WTO obligations faithfully to gradually open up the express delivery market, and thus the market shares accounted for by foreign express delivery enterprise is on the increase. Since Oct. 1, 2009, the formally promulgated Postal Act has for the first time specified the legal status of private express delivery enterprise, but the monopolized post system involved therein also put a strain on the development of many private express delivery enterprises. In this regard, how to cope with challenges posed by foreign express delivery enterprises, how to answer the monopolized post provisions in the new Postal Act and how to deal with internal competitions among private express delivery enterprises have become an unavoidable question for Chinese private express delivery enterprises.This paper, based on corporate competitiveness theories, has analyzed the competitive landscape of Chinese express delivery market, reviewed its developmental history, expatiate the current situation of private express delivery enterprises in terms of market scope, business mode, expansion mode and brand building and pointed out the advantages and existing problems in the process of development, and thus educed the study against competitive powers of private express delivery enterprises. In this paper, a compete set of competitiveness evaluation index system for private express delivery enterprises has been constructed, of which 6 Grade I indices such as market scope competitiveness, product competitiveness, service satisfaction, information technical competence, environmental coordination and sustainable development capacity and 28 Grade II indices, by which analytic hierarchy process is employed to determine the weight of each index, so as to provide a more intuitionistic approach for the evaluation against competitive powers of private express delivery enterprises. Moreover, Shunfeng and Yuantong etc. has been employed as samples for case study, and questionnaire survey and specialist-scored method are also employed to collect raw data, and then to process the said data to work out the comprehensive score regarding competitive powers of the five private express delivery enterprises. It also makes deep analysis against key scoring elements, and finally proposes some valuable policies and suggestions with regard to the promotion of the competitive powers of private express delivery enterprises and then prospects the future study orientation of private express delivery.It hopes to find out any key elements that may improve corporate competitiveness through study in this paper, to intensify the service consciousness and innovation spirits of private express delivery enterprises and to provide fair and reasonable competitive environment for its healthy and fast development. With development and consummation of policies and regulations and the substantiation of relevant data, the future study will be more thorough and realistic.
