In recent years, along with the economy globalization and the emerging political,economic, social and technological developments, the construction industry hasencountered increasing competitive pressure. As one of the ten companies which getthe most support from the government of Tianjin, Tianjin Urban Construction GroupCo. Ltd faces some very important problems, such as how to identify the competitiveenvironment and the core competence of the company, how to design effectivecompetitive strategy and how to survive and develop in the fierce competition in thefuture market. Using the theory of strategy management, this thesis studies thecompetitive strategy of Tianjin Urban Construction Group Co. Ltd according to theconstruction industry's characters and tries to find a way to help the Chinaconstruction companies run more effectively.Firstly, this thesis introduces the foundation and development of the competitivestrategy, concludes its conception and characters, and introduces the domestic andoverseas research status qua about the competitive strategy theory and its applicationin the construction industry. It also introduces the three processes of strategymanagement which includes the strategy analysis, strategy evaluation and strategyimplementation and control. Then the thesis systematically and comprehensivelyanalyzes the external environment and internal conditions of the corporation, studiesvalue chain and bid system of construction industry and finds out the chances and thethreats externally and its advantages and the weak points. And it also analyzes theopportunities and the challenges which China's construction industry would face afterChina became a member of the WTO. By the methods of the Analytic HierarchyProcess (AHP), the External Factor Evaluation Matrix (EFE), Internal FactorEvaluation Matrix (IFE), and Strategy Weakness Opportunity Threat Matrix (SWOT)combining quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis, the competitive strategyschemes, which can be adopted by the corporation, are developed. Thirteen spareplans are supplied, and through the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM)method and the result of calculation, six feasible plans are chosen. Finally, this thesisstudies the competitive strategy control and change considering strategic interactions.This thesis provides some useful suggestions which can help the Tianjin UrbanConstruction Group Co. Ltd hold its leader station and get sustainable development. Italso presents some considerable references to similar construction corporations.
