With the development of the science and technology,the random number generator (RNG)has got more and more application in many areas such as security of communication,entertainment,music,multimedia,simulation and test,etc. In this paper, though the application in the Low-Energy X-ray Telescope (LE), which in one of the payloads of "Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT)" project developed by the CAS Institute of High Energy Physics, the random number generator is studied systematically and in depth.(1) The basic theory of the the random number and the principle of generator are systematically discussed; according to the current engineering application needs, current true random number generators (TRNG) are high in cost and bad in transplantation,this paper comes up with a method of random number generator based on the noise source of oscillator.(2) True random pulse X-ray CCD signal generator is a verification circuit of random characteristics can simulate the output signal of the detector. The generator base on the method of oscillation sampling to generate true random,by adopting FPGA (style:XC3S200)made in XILINX company as test platform, program language makes use of VHDL, by changing the output voltage of DAC to achieve the output pulse amplitude is adjustable. The time alternation of output pulse is exponential distribution. The generator has simulated random characteristic of nuclear pulse in time well, using in function debugging of the electronic system at room temperature.(3) The effects of the design parameters, such as random source and sample frequency are discussed.The random characteristics are improved by adopting the combination of two pseudo-random processing circuit.Furthermore, we get a conclusion about the properties of the generator by analyzing the statistic test results of the random outputs.It is an experiment of realizing rondom number generator based on free-running oscillator,whose result can be referred by developers of system chip,embedded system or high-quality random number generator.
