Under the guidance of the national strategy of the convergence of telecom, CATV and computer network, in order to address the demands diversity of current users it is urgent to design next generation network architecture which supports the service-oriented integration of multi-service. For the restriction of its architecture and implementation methods, traditional router can't accomplish data switch in next generation network.Open Reconfigurable Router (OR Router) architecture provides open primary interfaces for its software and hardware functio. And OR Router can dynamically load the appropriate hardware and software components to support respective networking demand of each service. QoS-oriented hardware component is the key point of the research and development of OR Router. This paper focuses on the component of switch network's flow control. The main work and contribution of the thesis include as follows.(1) Three representative flow control mechanism and their implementation process are investigated including absolute credit amount, relative credit amount and Pause frame. By modeling and deduction, the decision principle of key parameters and effectiveness validation in flow control is proposed based on absolute credit amount mechanism.(2) We examine core network processor and switch network in OR router, especially analyze their support to flow control mechanism of switch network. Switch network's flow control model of streaming media is proposed to guarantee QoS.(3) With respect to the OR Router's hardware architecture and network flow control model of switch network, the implementation method of flow control component, interface definition and internal structure composition (Field Programmable Gate Array) is proposed based on FPGA. Meanwhile, based on the test result of OR Router hardware platform, we explore the key parameters of hardware components for flow control of absolute credit amount.In summary, this paper examines three representative flow control mechanism and proposes component model of hardware platform for flow control in OR Router. It has significant application value to the QoS quarantee on this platform.
