The reconfigurable router has an open architecture and can be flexibly reconfigured and be easily extended. It can satisfy the intelligent demand of next generation Internet routers. The reconfigurable router is composed of different components, so it is of the extremely vital significance to investigate the component development and the component-based performance measurement. This thesis, which is based on the 863 project of "A platform for reconfigurable router development", designs methods of component development and performance measurement for reconfigurable routers and then implements them based on Click. We study on Click software platform and design method of component development based on Click. Then we present designs and implementations of component development for ESP protocol, which lay foundations for the investigation of performance measurement for reconfigurable routers.Secondly, we design method of performance measurement for reconfigurable routers based on Click. The objective is to measure throughput, packet loss rate and latency of the routers configured based on Click, including IPv4 router, IPv4 router with ESP and IPv6 router. In this thesis, we present configuration of the Click measuring components and network topologies designed for performance measurement. Furthermore, we design and configure two traffic generators and two traffic receivers based on Click, which are useful for the performance measurement.According to the method of performance measurement, we carry out experiments to measure performance of the three routers mentioned above and test functions of IPv4 router with ESP. Then we give the results measured in the experiments and analyze them in detail. And also we contrast the performance of the three routers. Through the above evalutions, the flexible Click-based measurement results indicate that the ideal performance could be achieved and the methods designed in this thesis are feasible.
