| With the rapid development of Internet technologies, requirements posed by emerging businesses, such as IPTV, need higher network bandwidth and better quality of service. However, traditional router design can't well satisfy these requirements. National 863 Program(National High Technology Research and Development Program of China) Research on Open-Reconfigurable Router sets up two main tasks. One is to design the reconfigurable router to build the next generation network and the other is to implement network devices, which highly support triple play network and national experimental network tested.Traffic control component plays an important role in the design of the reconfigurable router. In this thesis, based on study of the Internet QoS model, techniques to control traffic and design of reconfigurable route, we present and implement a new traffic control component based on the high-speed token bucket.Our main contributions are highlighted as follows:(1) Aimed to design the high speed token bucket, we propose a way to compute the theoretical speed-limit rate and selecting rules for configuration parameters. Based on the analysis of two implementation models to achieve high-speed token bucket, we present a round-robin based update policy to support high speed token bucket. Meanwhile, we give the designs on the configuration table and the state table of the token bucket.(2) To address the problem of performance simulation in traffic control component, we propose MSRT(ModelSim Based on Real Trace)which is based on the real test data. MSRT is based on the Trace files from the running of real network. MSRT can test the source code of the hardware component, and well validate the performance of the traffic control component.(3) According to the design specifications of the reconfigurable router, the logic design scheme based on high-speed token bucket is proposed. Furthermore, we implement the traffic control component in the reconfigurable router based on the Altera FPGA.The traffic control component based on high-speed token bucket has been successfully applied in our reconfigurable router which is designed by research team. The work of this thesis is significant to the research of the reconfigurable technology and the development of the important equipment. |
