As the social awareness of security is gradually strengthened, there is a rising demand for the systems of video monitor technology and products. Especially in recent years, the development of computer technology, broadband communications and image processing technology are improving, and they are used in many domains including education, entertainment, medicines, and sports. Many applicable fields ask for a high demand for video monitor technology. How to realize the monitoring function which is required by a special environment has already become a brand new hot research issue on the visualization field currently.The thesis proposed and designed a new kind of embedded network video monitor system (VMS) overcomes the traditional VMS in the structure of the complex, the high cost, stability and reliability which are not high and limited transmission distance likes obvious shortcomings based on the application in small and middle situations. The hardware design of the system chooses the ARM9 kernel-based embedded processor chip S3C2410 and A/V encoding and decoding chip AT2042. The B/S as the mode of general framework of VMS application software, the embedded breadboard is the server end of the VMS and PC is the client end. Client PC is connected with monitor server through LAN, and they use TCP/IP transport protocols to communicate with each other for controlling information and video data information to realize the client's control of server and transmission of the monitored video images. The software in the server is based on the embedded Linux operation system and it has been designed and developed application program of monitor server and network communication program between client and server. The designed VMS is small and stable, perfect in the real-time and can connect the Internet directly.Under the experimental environment of LAN, this system is able to conduct the network video monitoring of the field environment including recording, replaying, capturing, PTZ control and movement alarm. While coding for the dynamic pictures, the system can achieve the data of 40:1,720×576 and 25.62fps, and it has smooth picture without distortion and obvious blocking effect. Through the test for the whole system, it shows the accuracy, stability and feasibility of the system design.
