Antenna takes an important part of wireless communication system.Microstrip antenna has a lot of merits such as low volume, light weight, easy conformity with carrier, good compatibility with microwave integrated circuit, easily mass product,it has been widely used in recent decades. With the rapid development of information and electronic technology, wireless communication system put forward higher request for the bandwidth of the antenna,in 2002, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approves ultra-wideband (UWB) technology which can be used for military radar only can be used for civil products, so wideband technology of microstrip antennas become an important research direction.According to the technical parameters of the UWB antenna, use the methods of wideband microstrip antennas to make theoretical research based on the theory of electromagnetic field and microstrip antennas. Then build microstrip antenna models based on FDTD tool, through the simulation to study the factors which affect the microstrip antenna bandwidth so that design UWB antennaFirst, wideband microstrip antennas based on metal-ridge,ladder-structure and rectangle truncated corners is designed, the bandwidth can reach to 23.6%,101.7% and 78.3%.Then,according to the low gain disadvantage of microstrip antenna unit,a 4-unit wideband microstrip antenna array is designed, thicken the substrate and take window on the patch, moreover have UC-EBG on the array in order to make the gain increase from 13.2dB to14.8dB.At last, a UWB microstrip antenna is designed, which uses the relevant research results and combines ladder-structure,simulated results express that working band is from 2.4GHz to12.3 GHz as the centric frequency was 7GHz,it can satisfy ultra-wideband communication band from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz completely, the biggest gain is 7.4dB at resonant point.
