Microstrip antenna has a lot of merits such as small volume, light in weight, consistent with carrier easily, easy for batch production, so it has been widely used in different fields, just as personal communication, RFID, missile, radar and so on. But the microstrip antenna also has the fatal disadvantage of narrow band, so its application has been limited.By analyzing the radiation characteristic and the impedance characteristic of the microstrip rectangle antenna according to the basic theory of the slice antenna, a microstrip antenna unit, which can work in the range of Ku band, was designed in this thesis. The unit was composed of three layers and two square patches. It was feed with microstrip and four circular patches were used as the compensatory capacitances in the middle layer. Because of the coupling resonance between the pieces, the bandwidth of the microstrip antenna was extended. This microstrip antenna was simulated with the software HFSS v10 of Ansoft company .The band is extended to 26.9% (VSWR<2) from the results, it can work very well within Ku band from 13.9GHz to 19.22GHz.A microstip antenna array(16×16) is made basic the unit of microstrip antenna, the distance between the unit is about 0.7λ0, the microstrip antenna array is feded with the same amplitude and phase. We know from the simulated results , the half-power beamwidth is about 50~60 in E and H plane, the average gain is about 25dB, the best sidelobe is -15dB and the worst is about - 10dB.
