Microstrip antennas have many advantages,such as low profile,light weight,easy processing and easy integration,and have become one of the most popular candidate antennas in various communication scenarios including 5G communication.Moreover,millimeter wave(MMW)communication plays an important role in 5G communication due to its advantages such as large capacity,low latency,and high data rate.However,the transmission loss of MMW communication is large.In order to solve this problem,on the one hand,microstrip array antenna can be used to increase the antenna gain.On the other hand,with the advantages of long transmission distance and low transmission loss of microwave(MW)communication,dual-band microstrip antennas that can work at MW and MMW bands simultaneously can be used to realize the complementarity of MW communication and MMW communication.The main work of this paper is as follows:1.A novel series-fed MMW microstrip array with single-layer structure is proposed.By adding trapezoidal short stubs on one side of the microstrip line,the symmetry of the fringing E-field of the microstrip line was broken so that the microstrip line has radiation characteristics.Based on this principle,a MMW microstrip linear array is designed,and the linear array is further extended into a tapered microstrip array with low sidelobe and a planar microstrip array with high gain.2.Based on the previous work,a broadband series-fed MMW microstrip array with singlelayer structure is proposed.By adding short triangular stubs on both sides of the microstrip line,the microstrip line can maintain the positive-inverted triangular periodic E-field distribution with radiation characteristics at wide MMW frequency band.In addition,the introduction of three pairs of shorting pins at the two ends of the microstrip line significantly increase the antenna bandwidth from 24% to 58.4%,and achieve stable gain and radiation patterns within the passband.3.Based on the first work,a dual-band microstrip antenna with large frequency ratio covering MW and MMW bands is proposed.By using the microstrip linear array proposed in the first work to efficiently radiate at MMW band,and at the same time act as the feed line of the MW patch antenna,the overall size of this antenna is compact.The carefully designed connection lines between the MMW and the MW elements enable the entire antenna to obtain good performance in the MW and MMW bands simultaneously,without additional ports or complex filters.
