Environmental pollution monitoring system is a system involved electronic, communication and computer technology. Nowadays, it occupies an important position in the environmental information industry. Traditional methods of environmental monitoring take microcontroller as their CPU, transfer data by the telephone lines, Ethernet or other wired communication ways. Obviously it is hard to adapt to the monitoring points which are scattered around remote and poor regions. Consequently, developing new high-tech environmental monitoring system becomes research hotspot in recent years.In this project, a wireless remote environmental monitoring system is presented, which is designed for government to monitor the parameters of environment in factories. The system could collect data related to environment and transfer them by GPRS or Ethernet if condition is allowed.This paper elaborates the system by the order of "analyze——design——realize". Firstly, embedded system is introduced. After some discussion, we chose ARM9 based S3C2410 as microprocessor, Linux as the operation system. Then overall design solution and framework of the system is proposed. Some details including LCD touch screen and GPRS module are presented while the most emphasis is placed on the design of transport protocols and database. Meanwhile, the hardware platform and the cross-compile environment are constructed. Based on this, the article implements the function of each modules: GUI application based on Qt/Embedded, background data receiver based on Visual Basic, database connection based on ADO, XML data encapsulation based on DOM, monitoring interface based on Kingview, serial communication under Linux, TCP communication based on Socket, HTTP communication based on XMLHTTP. At last, these modules are integrated.Finally, this paper gives the test experiment in the factories. The experiment results demonstrate the feasibility and stability of the system.
