Extensive application of video technology has been driven by society development and demands. Along with its continual expansion of application areas and increasing application demands, video technology has developed from the early simple acquisition, transportation and display of analog signal to its digitization as well as the function of storage and long distance transportation. But its application is still a subarea of video surveillance. Modern video technology is developing toward intelligent video surveillance by means of wired and wireless network communication as well as image processing and compression technology, thus it will benefit a lot to develop a intelligent video surveillance system which has its own proprietary rights.Using the technology of GPRS and Internet, and based on system platform of ARM9 microprocessor S3C2410 and embedded operation system Linux2.6.14, this paper develops a network video sruveillance system which can be applied in such as electric substation, home surveillance and so on. The system adopts C/S architecture, and thus realizes the remote surveillance. Through connecting to server of surveillance front-end by internet remotely, users can observe video images which have been captured by camera in realtime.As to hardware, the surveillance fornt-end is comprised of an S3C2410 based control board and a GPRS board. The control board controls the camera through USB interface and acquires video data; exchanges data with surveillance center through network interface; exchanges data with GPRS board through serial interface.As to software, Linux2.6.14 has been transplanted to control board. This transplantation simplifies implementation of the driver and system application software. Also camera driver has been transplanted in addition to the existing ones.The video server of surveillance front-end adopts multi-thread technology, in which one thread accomplishes video data capture based on v4l interface; another thread accomplishes communication with surveillance center. The video client of surveillance center adopts VFW technology to implement the surveillance interface, and realize realtime surveillance through browser.Base on the work described above, we have done preliminary research on two aspacts of video surveillance which are wireless transportation and moving object detection. Also, we have realized the receiving and dispatch of short messages and data transportation through GPRS network; done preliminary research on the background-difference and frame-difference which are used in intelligent video surveillance, and then given simulation results of two moving object detection algorithms.
