WMN(Wireless Mesh Networks) has features of dynamic self-organization, self-configuration and self-healing, its flexible distribution network, easy maintenance, low cost and high stability make it be the key technology of the next generation wireless communication systems. The networking mode of Wireless Mesh Networks is similar to Mobile Ad-hoc, and its low mobility of nodes, relatively fixed network topology and unconstraint power make it be an effective sollution for area wireless coverage. Wireless Mesh networks have extensive application in home networking, communication networks, building automation and high-speed MAN. There are still many issues to be studied of WMN, especially in the mobile environment, of which the MAC protocols and routing protocols have become hot research techniques. In the research of MAC layer protocols, this paper first describes the Mesh mode of 802.16d protocol, then discussed how to set up a simulation platform for IEEE802.16d Mesh with NS2, to configure some simulation scenarios and to analyse the results of simulation.. This platform has implemented the functions of IEEE802.16d Mesh by using an object-oriented C++ class and thus has scalability. As this platform accords with the network structure in NS2, various algorithm research in different network levels can be done on this platform. In the research of Mesh network routing protocols, this paper first summarizes classification of existing wireless routing protocols, then describes a new routing protocol called AFSLS (Adaptive-Fuzzy Sight-Link State Routing) for wireless Mesh networks and implements this routing protocol in the NS2. In the end this paper configures some simulation scenarios to verify the function of AFSLS and analyses the performance on the 802.16dMesh simulation platform. Simulation results show that compared with traditional wireless routing protocol AODV and OLSR, AFSLS has faster convergence and better robustness.
