With the fast development of information technology industry, three networks of telecommunication, computer and CATV (Community Antenna Television) have been combining together recently. IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) is a new application which is based on network, it provides many interactive services including digital TV to users through Internet Protocol by using infrastructure of wide band Internet, television and Set-top Box (STB). STB is an embedded board band multimedia information terminal for IPTV system. GUI (Graphic User Interface) plays a very important role in IPTV STB, because it builds up the interface platform between users and IPTV STB. Thus, the research of IPTV STB's GUI and its related interactive technology is most essential.During the process of software design and development for IPTV STB project, commonly used methods of realization of embedded GUI is first analyzed, after comprehensive comparison between a variety of embedded graphics interface system, we adopted GTK+ as the supportive graphics library to carry out the design and practice to the IPTV STB's GUI, which used layer framework and module design.Along with the diversity of IPTV functional requirements, in the foundation of embedded STLinux operating system, this article unifies libjpeg-based decoding module and framebuffer-based display module effectively to realized picture browsing on IPTV STB. Test results show that this method introduced here has a good performance, there is a certain practical value as well.This paper also studied the IPTV set-top box infrared remote control technology (Linux Infrared Remote Control, LIRC). And carried on LIRC configuration and testing for IPTV STB software product, developed as well as integrated a LIRC client side into the IPTV system, which can map the infrared signal to X event to finally realized the remote control of STB.
