Data Warehouse (DW) is a new technology of data processing and data managing that develops very fast in recent years. Its appearance has greatly accelerated the development of Decision Support Systems'(DSS) theory research and application. By using DW technology in the construction of DSS, the existing data resource can be made full use of and the management level can be improved efficiently. The theory, method and application discussion based on DW technology has become a research hotspot of DSS currently.This paper is based on the background of the State Grid Data Warehouse Project. The DW modeling and its application in DSS are studied.At first, the birth and developing status of DSS and the newest development of the database technology are described. The reason why DW technology comes into being——the need of the DSS's development, is analyzed. The building of DW is not meant to replace the database, but to build an analysis environment based on an entire and perfect information application to support high-level decision. Then the technical theory of DW is expounded, the methods of DW system's design and its software developing are discussed. Meanwhile, a new framework of DSS is presented.The stress of this paper is the modeling research of the DW system. The DW modeling method and realization technology which integrate Object Modeling Technology (OMT) with Multidimensional Star Schema (MSS) are brought forward after detailed discussion of Object-Oriented Analysis and Subject-Oriented Analysis. In the application of the aforementioned theory, The design of State Grid's data warehouse system model is elaborated, including data modeling, the choice and realization of relational database. On the basis of that, some problems in the management of DW such as Metadata management, data updating, data replication and how to improve the performance of the DW are discussed in detail. Meanwhile, the analysis tools of DW like OLAP, DM and OLAM are taken theory research.
