Firstly, relevant principles of DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and OPM (Optical Performance Monitor) are briefly introduced. Then based on the practical requirement of DWDM terminal equipment project, PMU (Performance Monitoring Unit) board including hardware part and software part is designed. Finally, the function validity of this PMU board is verified through a joint test with the network management system.Modular design is used during the process of the PMU board designing, which could cut down cycle time of hardware designing. It is also convenient to do debug. Meanwhile, designing of communication between the PMU board and agent-side used the DNE module, which enables network administrators to manage PMU board directly through SNMP protocol; it is one of highlights of this paper. In addition, by using the complex programmable logic devices as middleware for the hardware communications, is another innovative point in this paper.My major research work includes: 1. Study in the conception, structure, and key technologies of the DWDM system, as well as OPM principle, and prove that there are the maths relationship between Optical Signal Noisy Rate and Bit Error Rate.2. Design PMU board schematic diagram (including the selection of chips) and PCB plate diagram, weld the chips, design on-board software, do joint test with network management system, improve the function of PMU board and finally enable the network management system can accurately monitor channel parameters.3. Give out an amended proposal for PMU board design method and design the relevant test proposal. However, further verification of the design feasibility is still needed. Another working is to complete the hardware and software designing for interchanging pattern between CMI (Coded Mark Inversion) and NRZ (Non Return Zero) in the OSC channel. The validity of the hardware and software designing proposal is verified through some realistic testing platform.
