National Interest Expression In The Name Of Journalistic Rule

Nowadays, with media playing an increasingly important role in the world, its social functions have been gradually brought to a full play. Speaking for government, as one of its most important political functions, can't be an exception, especially in the international communication field. In fact, with globalization becoming increasingly real and near, the competition between different countries is becoming more and more incandesced, thus making speaking for national interest a priority of every international media.As China enjoys an increasingly higher status in the international community, it has been one of the focuses of world media, thus making it a necessity to study how international mainstream media will speak for their own countries. While from the most superficial aspect, it appears to be a matter of national-image-constructing, it is actually a matter of national-interest-protecting when talking about its essence. There are two reasons for the author to choose the latter as the topic of this paper instead of the former. Firstly, there are already too many papers discussing national-image-constructing; secondly, when talking about the relation between the two, the national-interest-protecting is the real purpose of international media while the national-image-constructing only an appendage; the former is the reference standard of international media when it's deciding what and how to say in the world media stage, while the latter only a useful tool. So, although the two are firmly connected, they are substantially different. To study the China-related news-reports of international media from a national-interest-protecting aspect will open out the real intention of world-famous media organization.For the news writing and reporting style, with the international media organizations becoming mature, the public-opinion-expressing can no longer be treated as a propaganda-making; it's necessary for international mainstream media to follow journalism rule when producing and disseminating international news-reports, because that is the only way for them to survive in the international community. This also goes true when talking about national-interest-protecting. This paper is intended to study how Times speaks for America by making use of the journalism skills.There is a famous saying: by other's faults, wise men correct their own. Analyzing how west media protect their national interest in the name of keeping the journalism rule will tell us the true intention of western media's speaking behavior. Furthermore, by studying their west counterparts, Chinese media will do a better job in international-reporting, thus making it possible to construct a more favorable national image in the world media stage and protect our national interest in a more delicate way.
