Manufacturing industry is facing the contradiction between customers diversified and individualized demands and the restrictions on the cost and delivery date in global competition. Mass customization can not only meet customer's these demands with lower customization cost and shorter delivery date and it has also offered a feasible way of solving this contradiction for manufacturing industry. Based on the research of product digitization and networked design theory and technology in coordination, the author combines mass customization application with production technology, realizes mass customization product design collaboratively under Web environment in this dissertation. The research has been carried on the following respects:(1) Development of Web- based customer's demand for mass customization productThe process of customer's demand acquisition, analysis and definition has been studied, and the digitization and description of mass customization products have been also discussed. Based on this study, the concept of Web-based development of customer's demand for the customized products is put forward, and its tools have been developed, which can be used to realize the acquisition as well as analysis and definition of customer's demand for mass customization.(2) Web-based product configuration for mass customizationBy means of the realizable mechanism of product configuration for mass customization, the research on the principle of product configuration and web-based implement of products configuration, the author proposes Web-based product configuration of mass customization for the need of support project of the dissertation. On the basis of designing mass customizing and systematic scheme integrated with PDM, Web-based product configuration of mass customization has been realized.(3) Study on VRML-based products model data visualization methodThe method of VRML-based products model data visualization has been proposed through the research of Web-based visualization technology. Interactive and collaborative visualization for product structure, part model and its assembly relationships has been realized.(4) Development of Web- based collaborative design toolsIn order to realize the interactive coordination with customers in mass customization, Web- based collaborative design tools have been developed for customers. The information of product parameters and 3D models can be viewed interactively and collaboratively in mass customization.(5) Share and exchange product information by means of STEP and XMLIn collaborative mass customization design, there is the need for product data exchange between different systems, so a method of sharing and exchanging product information by means of STEP and XML has been put forward. This method can be used for data integration of different CAx systems and reduction of its cost in product collaborative mass customization design.(6) Web-based collaborative product data managementFor the characteristics of multi-user, alternation, collaboration, dynamics, etc in web-based product collaborative mass customization design, product data management and its controlling technology in this design have been studied. This controlling technology has applied in mass customization system for product data management.(7) The above research results have been applied successfully in a manufacturing enterprise.At last, the author summarizes the main conclusions and suggests possible future research directions.
