IPTV is a new advanced technology to provide various types of interactive services including digital TV to home users. In nature, IPTV is built on the broadband cable TV network using several technologies, such as Internet, multi-media, communication, etc. As more effort is put into the"Three-to-One"process in our country, IPTV will surely become one of the most important businesses in Next Generation Network (NGN) and one of the most critical modes in the future digital home entertainment.How to provide good quality of service to the end-users is a hot topic in the applications of IPTV technology. One important factor to impact the quality of service delivered to end-users in IPTV is the efficiency to IPTV data delivery. Meanwhile, monitoring the quality of data transmission is important because it makes sure the high quality of service to end-users. This thesis studies the data delivery and the monitoring on the quality of data transmission in IPTV. The contributions of our work are as follows:(1) Based on analysis on IPTV video coding, real-time transmission protocol, video data delivery and techniques on monitoring the quality of video transmission quality, the pitfalls of traditional delivery model and transmission mechanism are pointed out. Then, we present EPSA (Edge Programmable Service Architecture) and a new delivery model for streaming media;(2) In order to improve the efficiency of the IPTV data delivery, we present LMDP(Light_weight Media Distribution Protocol). Compared with current methods like UDP/RTP protocols, LMDP is much easier to implement. Furthermore, LMDP supports using RDMA to receive data;(3) Aimed to solve the difficulty to monitor the quality of IPTV data transmission, we present a new model to monitor IPTV data transmission and an efficient algorithm - TBM (Token Bucket-based Monitoring). We analyze the real IPTV data by using TBM;In a word, our work will be very important for implementing high-efficient IPTV data delivery and effectively monitoring the IPTV data transmission at the edge network.
