ABSTRACT:The signal receiving by radar includes the useful echo and useless clutter, and the existence of clutter interferences radar’s normal work. Compared to traditional radar, the Forward Scatter Radar is more easily effected by clutter because of its lack of distance resolution. In order to increase the radar’s performance, it is necessary to simulate the radar clutter based on study the characteristics of clutter. Through the research on methods of cluter simulation, when simulating the radar signal, not only an accurate clutter situation can be build, but also a clutter filter can be designed and implemented, increasing the ability of clutter suppression. Therefore, radar clutter simulation is one of the key technology in radar signal simuation.First of all, the development history of bistatic radar and research status at home and abroad of radar clutter are summarized in this paper. Based on analyzing the working theory of monostatic radar, bistatic radar and forward scatter radar, the definition of backward scatter parameter is proposed and the definition, characteristics and mathematical modeling method of radar clutter are presented, including the clutter scatter mechanisaztion model, the clutter statistics model and clutter non-linear model. Also, the statistical characteristics of clutter in different situation are deeply analysed. Then, according to the classical method of clutter simulation in reference, including the Zero Memory Non-linearity (ZMNL) transform and Spherically Invariant Random Process (SIRP), the methods for simulating clutter of different Probability Density Function (PDF) and Power Spectrum Density (PSD) are analysed and the advantages and disadvantages of two methods are discussed. Next, the methods based on time domain and frequency domain for generating related Gaussian sequence are studied. Finally, the simuation parameters and contents are setted by software Matlab, and the clutter are simulated in different PDF, including Rayleigh, Lognormal, Weibull and K distribution and different PSD, including Gaussian, Cauchy and Allpole spectrum respectively. The simulation results are compared with the theory value, which testifies the possibility of the clutter simulation method of ZMNL and SIRP.
