Disaster recovery is an very important technique for the information systems of some organizations such banks, since data in these organizations are fatal. The major research issues of this thesis include the structure of the ICBC's disaster recovery system, the implementation of Visual Tape Library (VTL) Technology, the connection & application of the VTL in the disaster recovery system and the way to increase the data backup & disaster recovery speed. First, this thesis gives a deepen analysis on the existing seven-level indexes of disaster backup classification, then brings forward a new concept of a three-level index.Secondly, this thesis presents the whole design of the system, consisting of two sites, the production center which takes charge in data operation and the backup center which is responsible for data backup. Later, we establish a local tape library system in the production center and set up long-distance & local VTL backup systems in the backup center. After serious analyses on the structure of the disaster recovery system, we can find out the role of the VTL backup system, then present the key techniques of the VTL backup system applied in the bank disaster recovery system.After measuring the speed of the backup and recovery of VTL, we can come to the conclusion that the ICBC's disaster recovery system has reached the level to keep continuous operation as the three-level index described. In the end, this thesis looks forward for the prospect of VTL Technology.
