With the development of mobile communication technology, the popularity of mobile phone has increased dramatically. The demand of mobile phone users has shifted from simple voice communication to entertainment, fashion and personality, especially with the gradual integration of mobile communication network and Internet. The need for network functions has become stronger than ever before. Users would like their mobile phones to become network terminals as PCs.In this thesis, the design and implementation of a mobile phone e-mail management system based on Brew platform, a technology offered by Qualcomm, are discussed. Guided by a detailed user demand analysis, Email client software is implemented on Brew platform. By using POP3, SMTP and the network interface offered by Brew, the software allows its user to receive, read and send Emails online, bookmark Emails locally, and manage Emails offline, according to the user's configuration of Email server, username and password. Based on the feature of mobile phone, a definite finite automata (DFA) model is discussed to help design the graphic interface when Brew-based mobile phone applications are developed. In the first part of the thesis, the development of mobile communication technology is introduced and the possibility of integration of mobile communication network and Internet is analyzed. Later on, the system analysis, design and implementation are described in details. One way of dividing the system into modules is introduced. The design of the module of sending Email is discussed. The graphic shift DFA model is introduced with detail. Finally, the implementation of user interface, network data processing and POP3 protocol and DFA model are described.
