With the development of electronic communication technology, the requirement for mobile portable communication equipments increased rapidly. Microstrip antenna just meets the carriers'requirements in shape and weight of radiation element owing to its small size and light weight. As radio communication facilities and electronic equipments quickly developed in the direction toward miniaturization, antenna miniaturization becomes the trend to adept the development of communication system. Research on small antenna issues become a hot topic in nowadays. With the development of computer technology, especially electronic computer technology, the antenna calculation methods had made great progress particularly FDTD analysis method which based on Maxwell's equation. As one of the most powerful analytical tools in electromagnetic theory and engineering field, FDTD can solve the electromagnetic phenomena that traditional methods can't analysis, which can be more easily and accurately to predict a large number of complex electromagnetic problems in the practical projects.Based on microstrip antenna and FDTD analysis method, a novel miniature antenna is designed to meet the requirements of miniaturization antenna applied in mobile portable communications equipments. Deform the planar monopole antenna by meander method to increase current path. The antenna resonant frequency and impedance matching achieved by tuning the depth and position of the patch slot. Considering the requirements of the antenna bandwidth and gain the presented antenna is available in mobile portable equipments. The simulation results showed that the main resonance frequency was 2.45GHz; impedance bandwidth was more than 100MHz when Return Loss was less than -10dB and antenna gain was more than 6.8dBi, the patch area was reduced by 66 percent compared with original one. Then according to the simulation model antenna was manufactured. From the test results we can see the simulation and test results were consistent. Finally the dual band characters of designed antenna were studied to provide some references for engineer application.
