The RSS Application In Library

With the development of information technology and the internet, various new technology of Web2.0 has been widely used, and the social information resources have rapidly increased. For one thing, internet becomes the major way to get information for users. For another, the demands for information differ from users'subjects, gender, jobs and ages. That is to say, the demands for information become more specialized and individual. Individual information services, developing under such a social circumstance, offer information services actively according to users' specific needs. Library needs to update and innovate its serving ways with the development of the social environment, so as to provide readers with push services of individual information. RSS, as one kind of Web2.0 technology, has a strong function in information fusion and push services. RSS has been a heating point in the field of library research and will become a strong tool for library to provide push services of individual information. The author does study on the theories and technology of Web2.0 and Library2.0, and does research on the application of the information push technology in library's information services, by which the solid theory evidences and practical foundation can be laid for the research and realization of RSS application in library.This dissertation does a review about the current researches on RSS at home and abroad. On the basis of the state of the library's network information service in Nanhai Campus of South China Normal University, by using the RSS technology, the dissertation manages to carry out the push services of the latest notices and new books, as well as the input of the RSS on-line reader into OPAC.The online reader is designed and brought out by the author. Compared with the other like products, it has advantages of high visiting speed in LAN, direct entry with readers'identification number in public access catalog, the same entrance with the functional modules of "Readers' Information" and "Borrowing History", and convenience for the users.Currently, the application of Web2.0 in domestic library has two problems. One lays on the change of library administrators'service philosophy, while the other one is the strength of applying this technology. As a technology worker in library, the author desires to do some contribution to the library development by this research.
