As an essential part of city infrastructure, streetlamp plays an important role in ligting of city, safity of traffic and law-and-order situation, In addition the management level of the lighting system is also a comprehensive symbol of city visualize and social development. With the rapid development of moderm cities, the traditional monitoring and control system of streetlamp has become unable to meet requirements of a reliable and energy-saving lamp-lighting system. However, in recent years the fast evolving of wireless senitor network technology with ZigBee represented has provided a new program to achieve an high reliability, high degree of imformation and hight energy-efficient streetlamp monitoring and control system.This paper takes monitoring and control system of streetlamp on GaoBu road in Dongguang city as a background, and develops a monitoring and control system based on ZigBee networks. This system is composed of streetlamp teminal uint based on ZigBee technology, monitoring substation and monitoring centre. To achieve a broader range of monitoring and control, the system adopts a two-lay structure: a substation and some some teminal unit around it format a ZigBee network to realize imformation collecting and controing on streetlamp, substations communicate with monitoring centre by GPRS network.Firstly this paper summarizes the background and current development of monitoring and control system of streetlamp, and also the characteristical of ZigBee and the advantage of it in this system. Secondly the each lay of ZigBee protocol framework is briefly introduced. Thirdly a comprehensive plan of the system architecture is conducted, which includes system structure, network topology, establishment of ZigBee network, data routing and communicating protocol. Fifthly, this paper researchs realization of researchs hardware and software of terminal uint, and briefly introduces the framework of substation and the monitoring center. Finally we summarize the paper and look forward to some prospect.
