PowerPC based data communication systems have been used more and more widely. The equipments in various fields are moving forward in the direction of digitization, intelligence, network centered and micromation. The mass data transmission needs new communication technologies. In the key project of National High Technology Research and Development Program 2007(863 Program) "KEY TECHNOLOGIES AND EQUIPMENT OF METAL MINING SEISMIC EXPLORATION", the data from seismic signal recorders needs to be transmitted to the main controller in real time. To control the data acquisition array and to collect the data, there is a sub-project named "KEY TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH ON METAL MINING SEISMIC DATA EXCHANGER" to develop an embedded data communication system based on PowerPC. The work introduced in this thesis is a part of the sub project. Based on the platform of MPC8349E board, the thesis implements PowerPC data communication system software.Combined hardware platform resources, the thesis completed the analysis of U-Boot boot process and porting, the analysis and compiling of the flat device tree file based on the Open Firmware IEEE standard 1275, Linux kernel porting, driver and application development for metal mine seismograph data distributor.MPC8349E hardware platform and the development methods of data communication system board support package are introduced. U-Boot source code, the flat device tree standard, PowerPC Linux platform specific codes are studied and PowerPC based data communication software is implementation.
