This dissertation discusses the Board Support Package software design for the Navigation System. The current development of the embedded system is introduced at first. While the system design scheme of the Navigation System is proposed then. After that, the porting method of the uMon Bootloader and the customization of the Embedded Linux Kernel for the Navigation system are discussed in detail, as well as the design of the Linux device drivers for the peripherals. Finally the test of the Board Support Package (BSP) for the target system is presented.Chapter 1 introduces the current development of the Navigation System , the embedded system, and the Board Support Package technology.Chapter 2 analyzes the system designation of the Navigation System, and focuses on the hardware framework and the system's principium.Chapter 3 introduces the feature of the Embedded Linux's bootloader uMon. Focus on uMon technique keys and the procedure of the porting of Umon which has been specialized for the Navigation System.Chapter 4 analyzes the specialized porting method of the embedded Linux to the XScale PXA255 Micro Process Unit, manufactured by Intel, for the Navigation System. Especially the Operation System porting procedures, including the establishment of the porting environment, the configuration of the kernel, and the customization of the root filesystem is discussed in detail.Chapter 5 talks about the design method of the character device drivers, and the MTD system. The extended keyboard for the Navigation System, the DPRAM and the NAND Flash drivers' designation is presented.Chapter 6 fulfils the Board Support Package for Navigation System software test, and gives out the result of the test after analyzing the method to test.Chapter 7 concludes the research works of the dissertation, also raises the tendency of the possible way of further development.
