As the earliest and most extensive application of laser technology, Laser ranging technology are widely used in military and national defense as well as teaching and scientific research fields. This paper first analyzes the basic working principle and the respective characteristics of the three methods used in laser ranging technology, they are pulsed laser ranging, phase laser ranging and interferometry laser ranging. The paper mainly analyzed the semiconductor laser ranging system. Through the analysis of all the factors that may affect the detection range, the paper has made some improvements on the pulsed semiconductor laser ranging system, and explore a set of lower cost, high-precision and long-range pulsed semiconductor laser ranging system. At present, the domestic semiconductor laser ranging technology is still immature, the detection range and accuracy are still have a certain gap between the advanced level of the foreign countries. Therefore, these studies have a practical significance and value.Through theoretical analysis we can find that the laser power and the beam quality are the most important factors that affect the performance of the laser ranging system. Therefore, starting from these factors, use the cylindrical lens collimation method, effectively suppress the noise of the system, and use the noise threshold circuit to effectively improve the performance of the entire ranging system, moreover, use the time scaling extend techniques to ensure the accuracy and accuracy of the ranging system. At last, carried out some simulation jobs to get the actual measurement data, that proved the feasibility of the entire system.
