Access network should be oriented to broadband and mobility as the development of technology. The widespread use of Fixed-Mobile Convergence provides a solution of access network. PON and WiMAX as the representative of optical fiber and wireless network both have outstanding broadband which makes the convergence of these two technologies have great value to research.The convergence of PON and WiMAX not only reduce the cost but also takes advantage of broadband.It can provides different kinds of broadband access services which makes wireless network be an integrative network, this network can support wireless services and wire services.The feature of flexible can reduce the cost of network maintenance.The convergence network of PON and WiMAX were studied primarily in this paper.The integrated technology of EPON and WiMAX is an excellent solution of low cost and high covered access network. This paper analyzes the significance of convergence of EPON and WiMAX, then focuses on five architectures of convergence networks,describes the architectures of EPON and WiMAX integration networks,and analyzes their working mechanisms, after that describes and compares the advantages and shortcomings of the five convergence architectures.Because of the advantage of WDM-PON network, the integrated technology of WDM-PON and WiMAX has some features which EPON and WiMAX integrated network doesn't have.This paper proposed the framework of WDM-PON and WiMAX integrated network, After introducing how the system work, a new algorithm of dynamic bandwidth allocation which fitted this integrated network was demonstrated.The results of the algorithm simulation showed that this algorithm of dynamic bandwidth allocation had a better delay performance than independent architecture under high load.The algorithm simulation also analyzed the bandwidth ratio of different traffic flow in different network load.Sections of this paper are as follows:The first chapter is the Introduction section which introduced the research background of this topic and its significance, the current theoretical basis for further study of the status quo at home and abroad.The second chapter introduced integration of broadband access network technology, an overview of PON technology and WiMAX technology, WiMAX and PON access technology integration advantages.The third chapter mainly studied the integration of EPON and WiMAX access network, introduced the integration of the existing EPON +WiMAX network architecture, and analyzed their respective working mechanisms,strengths and weaknesses.The fourth chapter introduced the integration of WiMAX and the WDM-PON access network, put forward a new connection-oriented WDM-PON+WiMAX convergence network infrastructure and a dynamic allocation algorithm. And used NS2 network simulator on the convergence network model for system-level simulation to verify the superiority of WDM-PON+WiMAX convergence network architecture compared with an independent connection architecture.The fifth chapter summarized the research and put forward the direction of further studies and prospects.
