The access network is a hotspot of common interest in the field of telecommunication and operation recently. Fibre To The House (FTTH) is the final goal, Passive Optical Network (PON) is one of the ideal technologies to realize that, and Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) represents the latest development trend of the access network, and it is one of the hot studies of current board access network, is thought as the main means to realize future broadband access and FTTH.In this dissertation, some key technologies in EPON system are investigated, including study on system structure, MPCP protocol, 0AM protocol, bandwidth allocation algorithm and survivability, the major achievements are outlined as follows:(1) Based on the discussing of the system structure, main features, and MPCP protocol of EPON system. The dissertation has proposed the design scheme of 0AM protocal of EPON system, according to the principle of 0AM protocal that is defined in IEEE802.3ah. And mainly provided the design scheme of the link monitoring, remote failure indication, remote loopback of OAM in EPON.(3) Bandwidth allocation algorithm is a hot and difficult techonology of EPON upstream channel. And a scheme of dynamic bandwidth allocation based on fixed length is studied based on the discussion of the existing bandwidth allocation technologies of EPON. The simulation results of this algorithm are provided; In order to adapt the variable frame length and guarantee the QoS request of EPON system, a Period Hybrid Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm (PHBA) which support multi-service and guarrante QoS is proposed based on DifferServ, then the simulation results are compared with the static bandwidth allocation algorithm and dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm.
