The reform of the medical and health system has been the national focus of the work. Medical and health institutions improve their management and medical service quality by establishing hospital information system. Making full use of the information construction to provide decision support for the medical management by accurate statistical analysis has become an emphasis of the current development of the medical informatization. Although a great deal of medical information and data has been accumulated, currently the use of information and data is still at a low level. Therefore, establishing medical treatment oriented data warehouse, and then making knowledge discovery with data mining, to provide decision support for regulatory agencies, has an important significance for the development of the medical services.This thesis made demand analysis of the medical care oriented data warehouse system, designed and implemented the modules and the multi-dimensional model of the system, and placed emphasis on the study of the ontology-based metadata management in the ETL process.1. System architecture and designing of data warehouse oriented Hospital Information System. Multidimensional Data Model,.NET and SQL component are used for the running environment of system. The system architecture includes portal, data application layer, and application development platform and data base. Metadata management module, as well as modules of authority control, application data modules has been designed in the system.2. Metadata management module based on medical domain ontology in data warehouse oriented Hospital Information System. The metadata of heterogeneous databases are enormous quantity and the relationships between different hierarchies are complex. This paper utilizes the theory of ontology and the ideology of multi-level management. The module includes source layer, domain-dictionary layer, mapping layer and syntactic rules layer. Build up the ontology metadata module, the attribute of ontology library is linked with the attribute of metadata in database through semantic mappings. Design the metadata scanning module, rule definition module and rule implementation module.3. System implementation and validation of data warehouse oriented Hospital Information System. Mainly design the dimension tables, fact tables and data dictionary table which are need in the system to make them suitable for the feature of data in Hospital Information System. Analyze and design the process of ETL. The whole system running flow, which is from Hospital Information System to data warehouse, has been validated in the thesis.
