Research On The Evolution And Innovation Of The Educational Function Of University Library

With the development of the concept of higher education, research on the educational function of university library has gradually attracted more and more attention. This thesis explores the evolution and innovation of the educational function of university library from the perspective of higher education.The educational function was the main function of ancient library or library building in our country. Ancient books were closely connected with the educational activities aiming at fostering advanced talents, in which various library buildings played significant roles. As we can see from the evolution of the educational function of university library in modern and contemporary times in our country, its chief substances and characteristics, contemporary university library, whether from its installation or from its working schedule, has been influenced by western educational system, and is separated from the outstanding tradition of the ancient library educational function. Moreover, recent higher education lacks the cultivation of students'human spirit, especially their independent thinking and innovative ability, which ought to be supplemented through the particular educational function of university library.Web-based university library which has professional librarians, abundant information resources, high performance web technology and equipment, and digital library web, can not only provide learners with various type of learning resources, implement education training that focuses on document retrieval and information quality education, but also make the implementation efficient, flexible and rich in content so as to lay a good foundation for open learning and education network platform. University library in foreign countries provides us with referential experience in terms of post installation, reform on the service mode and content, and the role of libratians. Librarians play an important role in the aspect of conducting 'user-centred'management and service mode as well as in the aspect of supporting teaching reform, course reform, courseware exploitation and students themselves, therefore, librarians expand and deepen the educational function of university library.Establishing a digital library-based platform for education is a innovative way to bring the educational function of university library into play. The goal of improving knowledge transfer system, promoting the formation of knowledge society and encouraging the communication and innovation of culture will be achieved by making full use of the organizational and guiding role of librarians, integrating information resource, setting up communication platform and evaluating academic information, and university library will be developed into a document center, learning resource center and knowledge management center and eventually become a leading power which will guide a learning society. This is a new topic university library will face in the new century.
