Multicast is a data transmission with high efficiency. Comparing to unicast, multicast can reduce server loads and enhance bandwidth utilization of network. So it is suitable for point-to-multipoint or multipoint-to-multipoint applications.Ethernet is widely used in the LAN. With development of Ethernet technology, Ethernet is migrating from LAN to MAN gradually. Because of Ethernet's low-cost and high-speed, service providers can deploy multicast-based applications with high flow rate on Metro-E network. Because of the forwarding mode based on group MAC address, multicast source can not be controlled in conventional LAN, which cause reciever influenced by multicast data from illegal multicast source easily. In addition, in order to solve the problem of multiple IP multicast address mapped in one MAC multicast address, multicast service providers must limit the assignation of IP multicast address. This will cause multicast service deployed more difficulty on Metro-E network. In this paper, I analyze and study IP multicast control technology on L2 Metro-E network. By combining L3 multicast forwarding mode of Ethernet L3 switch and IGMP snooping which is the control technology of IP multicast on L2 network, I implement IP forwarding with capability of source-aware within VLAN or cross VLAN for IP multicast on L2 network. With using the IGMPv3 protocol which can manage group with multicast source, the IP forwarding technology on L2 network for IP multicast data can strengthen the control of IP multicast on Metro-E network and solve the problem that user receives illegal multicast data and imprecise forwarding on Ethernet L2 network. For the Ethernet ring of Metro-E network, the control technology of IP multicast when link topology change on the ring is studied. A method of L2 multicast management for link topology change on Ethernet ring is proposed to reduce the time of network convergence and multicast data stream block without affecting the existing business. At last, I test and verify the function of IP forwarding with capability of source-aware for [P multicast data within VLAN and cross-VLAN which I implemented in this paper.
