With the rapid development of Internet and the specific implementation of triple play.The substantial increase of the power of network transmission and processing in broadband makes the number of users rapid growth.The video services represented by IPTV also rapid development,especially in high-definition video and the gradual rise of 3D television programs.The rapid adoption of broadband applications requires higher-bandwidth.Traditional unicast is not conducive to bulk transfer.Broadcasting is not conducive to interact with a particular data object too,and also waste a lot of bandwidth.However,the multicast technology can transmit data from one source to a set of terminals and which can run on any network architecture.The multicast technology is the best sloution to transmit new business which the higher data capacity requirements,higher quality requirements,higher transmission delay requirements.Broadband network as an important national information infrastructure.It is an important carrier which carrys a variety of informational applications.Many countries have made broadband development as an important part of national strategies.Its importance is self-evident.But access network is still the bottleneck between the high-capacity backbone network and the LAN as the network's "Last Mile".GPON (Gigabit-Capable Passive Optical Network) as a new fiber access technology,with its large capacity,high bandwidth,wide coverage,simple,fit a variety of business,easy to maintain and upgrading,environmental protection and other advantages gradually concerned by all manufacturers,operators such as telecom etc.The technology of access has been the key to broadband applications.Therefore,the research of multicast technology over GPON system has very important significance.The dissertations make in-depth researches on the related technologies of GPON system and the related technologies and applications of multicast under a good research environment which supplied by ** Communications and its team's strong support.The author also proposes a solution of multicast technologies over GPON system and implements its relevant application modules:firstly,the author gives a brief introduction of the subject's background and significance,analysis the progress of research and application in domestic and international;secondly,makes descriptions related technical about GPON,multicast technology and the systems of software and hardware in detail,including the main technical characteristics of GPON,the key technologies needed to achieve GPON,an overview of multicast,IGMP,two-layer multicast protocol,the architecture of hardware processor,software's data flow control and packet processing etc;next is the solution's design;then is the implementation, testing and performance analysis;finally,a summary of the work on this thesis and further research were discussed.The design and implementation of multicast solution over GPON systems in this paper has been verified by ** communications corporation which can be widely applied to multicast services related to the access network.It proposes a practical solution of carrying multicast traffic related to access network for next generation.
