Since the adoption of reform and opening policies, legal news has gradually become an important part in our life along with building a socialist state under the rule of law in China. And "Democratic Politics" as the weekly under People's Daily, the most representative newspaper of the party, can reveal the paces of development of legal report within China after a comprehensive analysis.The "Democratic Politics" weekly of People's Daily was founded on January 6 1999. It has been committed to the propagate of "ruling the country by law" "building a socialist state under the rule of law" and "socialist democracy" thereafter. In general, its development undergoes three stages:The first stage(January,1999 December,2004) "Democracy and the Legal System"; the second stage(January,2005 December,2007) "Democracy and Legality"; the third stage(January,2008 December,2009) "Democratic Politics".Chapter one, this paper deals with the social background, especially the legal background. Then, the entire process of the weekly is reviewed in stages, such as three major renovations, changes of columns, pages, content and style.The headline news from January 1999 to December,2009) are selected and analyzed in chapter two to see the main changes at front page. From the changes, we can see the effort and trail during legal report of the weekly.Through analysis of the characteristics of news in the front page, its strengths and weaknesses are clearly demonstrated in chapter three.Chapter four,the author then makes a comparison between the "Democratic Politics" and the legal report on "Southern Weekly" to reveal their respective advantages and future development direction.At last, the author studies the strengths and weaknesses of the weekly.
