Along with the expansion of the internet scale's day-by-day, the sharply increasing of the quantity of user and the unceasingly appearance of new network application, to understand and grasp the working characteristics of the internet and its intrinsic essential are getting more and more complex.Mean time, problems like low quality of service, serious network congestion happen frequently when users are on line. In addition, the internet cannot feedback related parameter of the network's performance to itself directly, so if we want to improve the service quality, manage and control internet scientifically and effectively, we must measure the internet accordingly.Our main research purpose is to measure the performance parameter and the routing information of the network, and provide direct reference to understand the running condition of the network and resolve network fault. Firstly, it introduced the main research areas of network measurement technology, recent research status and measurement theories and key technologies. Secondly, based on the requirements analysis of network measurement and in-depth study of current network measurement, determined the measurement methods, measurement object, measurement parameters and measurement tools that used in this paper, and designed a interoperability, distributed and extensible architecture of network measurment which is composed by two parts:server and measurement node. Whereby, measurement node is the part of functional realization of the whole measurement system, it includes main modules as data collection, data storage, data analysis, data visualization display, etc. Thirdly, realized a network measurement system based on CERNET according to the proposed architecture. Described all function modules in length, and gave out the treatment scheme and realization process of the modules, and emphasized on analysis and discussing of data collection, data storage, data visualization display. In addition, since the system of modules used B/S architecture, so it can realize cooperative measurement between measurement nodes, easy to manage and maintain. We used Sha-256 in the process of password authentication to enhance the security. Meanwhile, the proposed system support IPv6, so it can predict and find the problem of the next generation internet. Finally, by deploying and testing in the CERNET network, the test proved that the proposed system can reflect the real working condition and find existing problems of the network, and it is indicated to be expandable and coordinating, and the designed system is easy to use, manage and maintain, so it can provide a very good reference for superintendent to monitor and troubleshoot the network.
