As the biggest disaster in the past 30 years in China, the reports on the Wenchuan earthquake is very important, which are the study texts to analyze the characteristics and the problems on Chinese disaster report. This thesis focuses on how two medias in Guangzhou and Chengdu construct different report frames after the Wenchuan earthquake. The reasons about the differences between the two medias and the problems and shortcomings on Chinese disaster report are also discussed in depth.Using research methods including frame analysis, content analysis, text analysis, and document analysis, the thesis has analyzed the reports published within a month after the Wenchuan earthquake from both Southern Metropolis Daily and Chengdu Business Daily. It is found that the frame used by Southern Metropolis Daily is based on the society responsibility and humanity, while the frame used by Chengdu Business Daily is mainly controled by the political forces.Theis thesis therefore argues that the political forces and the position and values of media are fundamental causes that results in the two different frames. This thesis has proposed five suggestions to improves disaster reports in the end, including: to establish a more open and more transparent press system, to reduce the control on the critical reports about aftermath of disaster, to encourage the diversified voices in report, to reduce the so-called "typical report" writing, and to make the journalists more professional. This work might be useful to disaster reports in future.
