With the rapid development of economy and technology, Internet has brought a deep transformation to the job and life of human with its abundant resource, individual services and convenient method of communication. So people depend more and more on internet. The way of information communication which represents the future trends might have the character of real-time processing, mutual responding and media stream multiplexing. The research and realization of the technology of stream media have been the hotspot, and IPTV is one typical application of them.This paper focuses on rapid trend of development of the telecommunications network, the Internet and TV Network. Based on Shanghai Telecom IPTV set-top box project, we research and implement the IP set-top box browser multi-media components. In this paper we analyze the IP set-top box browser features, functions and development trend. Analyze and research in depth set-top box browser multimedia components developed key technologies, development methods and development environment. Design and implement cross-platform multimedia components of the system for browser engine. Allow the users to enjoy watching TV, video on demand, web browsing, interactive entertainment services and other services in multi-dimensional. To achieve browser multimedia component system based on the IP set-box, we mainly focus on the browser plug-in development and design. This plug-in is based on the NPAPI cross-platform browser plug-in architecture and can be used in different browsers, Including Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera other mainstream browser. The main purpose of the paper is to allow local application of the program is capable of running in Web, and to make it as strong effect as native application.Through the communication between the multimedia plug-in and other applications, we design and implement innovatively transparent play scene and shaped transparent playback control buttons. Transparent play scene as the display and control front-end of media player has the designing and developing simplify characteristic and flexible and customized characteristic according to user needs and so on.Finally, summary is derived, which points out the shortcomings and future work of this design, and prospects the future of the NPAPI.
