Virtual scene ramble is a typical application of VR, which forms a hot research area in computer graphics and is widely used in military, education, aerospace, urban layout and entertainment. The research is meaningful to promote a city's publicity economic development and construction.Aiming at the simulation requirement of virtual scene ramble system, this paper studies on key technologies including virtual terrain construction, virtual geometrical modeling, and simulation programming etc. The main contents of the research are: The basic conceptions of digital elevation model are introduced, especially the terrain modeling algorithms of Delaunay. The conversion methods from DED (Digital Elevation Data) to visual terrain model provided by Multigen Creator are analyzed based on the theoretical algorithm, and the corresponding relationships between parameters in theoretical algorithms and software panel are built. A method of creating DED based customized gray scale map is proposed, which generates the data from general geographical map. The optical theory of light source, material, and texture are analyzed, and the equivalent parameters on software are found out in physics equations. A Bezier spline based road line generating method is proposed, and a particle based fountain effect simulation algorithm is designed. An MFC multi thread single document based VP programming framework is put forward, whose scheme is "MFC window thread is main thread, VP thread is work thread; main thread disposes interface interaction, and work thread draws VP scene; Windows massage maps arrange communication between the two threads".A virtual ramble system is implemented based on the research, and its real time ability, accurate fidelity, convenient interoperability and high worthiness prove the validated of the research.
