Road,as the carriers of people's movement and goods'transmission,is a branch of the building. Like the beauty of building, road was also the combination of the art and technology. Good road environment will give users feeling of clear and pleasant, it will add the fun of travel,eliminate fatigue,reduce traffic accidents.Therefore, how to carry out traffic safety research from the harmony of road and environment as well as the design principle of "people first and based on vehicle",was also brought into the urban's planning and design fields. It should be the basic starting point of optimization of road planing and design to provide a comfortable driving envirnment for the drivers that can reduce the number of traffic accidents which because of the error guidence by the road and environment as soon as possible.The users can forget themselves in the true feelings of the environment and traffic facilities ,observe the scences from any angle distance and fine level of observation and realize the real-time switching and comparing of the multiple environmental effects and designs by combining virtual reality and the three-dimensional visualization technology in the application of urban traffic simulation , simulating each block of the virtual city and basing on realistic urban road. Using the corresponding sensory equipments to forget oneself in a virtual urban transpot and driving a virtual car on the artery, the information of virtual urban traffic capacity and the management and control of different traffic junctions can be got in person. Virtualization technology can also be used to change the layout of urban traffic rationally and effectively, to improve the urban road, and then ,an effective means to pursue the best traffic control and management will be provided.The urban traffic simulation system that this paper studyed is on the basis of the idea about the coordination between road planning and urban landscap. The roads can be drawn in the three-dimensional scene directly by the designer.With the intuitive understanding of the surrounding environment,one can consider the relationship between roads and the surrounding environment comprehensively as well as the effect on traffic safety ,can change the layout of the urban traffic and improve the urban road reasonably and effectively.With the simulation of the traffic flow and the controlling of signal cycle time,one can know about state of the vehicles in the whole road network in the three-dimensional scene intuitively to provide a three-dimensional visualization platform for pursuing the best traffic control and management.By using VC.NET platform,the visual simulation tools(Multigen Creator),Vega Prime and the application programming Interface (OpenFlight API and Vega Prime API), this system achieve functions such as the dynamic building of three-dimensional urban road model and road network topology, the simulation of the traffic flow , the travel light restraint to the vehicles,the best control scheme for the road network according to the regulation of signal cycle time. And real-time roaming,interactive control,3D information query,spatial orientation,spatial analysis and the other functions are also achieved in 3D virtual environment.
