Media streaming is becoming the mainly driving force for future broadband network applications. In the traditional client-server streaming system, the server often becomes the bottleneck due to the high bandwidth and long duration of multimedia streams. Existing solutions are mainly used IP multicast and CDN technology to solve this problem, but they both have the inherent flaws. P2P media streaming can utilize bandwidth resource of host nodes to provide service to other peer nodes without changing the current deployment of the Internet. It is cost-effective and contains good application value in the future.There are many challenging issues that need to be addressed in P2P media streaming, including node selection mechanism, data scheduling mechanism, data caching mechanism and incentive mechanism. In this thesis, we try to solve these problems and give some effective proposals.A kind of composite structured mode is proposed to solve the problem of the inherent drawbacks of gossip protocol-the randomness and uncertainties of data dissemination. This mode combines unstructured P2P network with structured P2P network, and adds a prefetch scheduling algorithm to cover the shortage of the data dissemination based on Gossip. Because of the deficiency of the traditional caching algorithms, a new cache mechanism based on popularity is proposed. Incentive and automatic detection of sub-nodes are used to detect. Nodes which are lack of cooperation are punished and the child nodes are re-selected. Finally, this paper analyzes the existing P2P simulators, found that there is no suitable P2P streaming simulator. As a result, a simulator of streaming media called P2PMedSim is designed based on JAVA language. This simulator has a good visual interface and supports lots of network topology model and also is easy to use. The detailed description of the simulator and main modules are described. On this basis, the simulation tests show that the system has good feasibility and scalability.
