Combined with 3D visualization technology, multimedia technology and the rapid development of the Internet, virtual campus has show strong vitality. The virtual campus reappears high realistic and beautiful campus scenes, and shows the cultural environment of the school,which has an important meaning with introducing and promoting college's cultrue and history. Although virtual campus scene simulation has a great progress, because of limit of network communication rate, there is a distance between internet virtual campus scene and realistic campus scene. Therefore, research on how to improve high realistic campus scene with limit of network communication rate has significant on in practical application value.This thesis based on multiple modeling theory, from the application point of view to build three-dimensional model of virtual campus, using VRML language to develop the system of high realistic campus. This thesis research on the key problems of network communication rate and high realistic campus, the main research works and achievements are outlined as follows:(1)Level of details of model is basis of high realistic virtual reality system. Without affectting network communication rate, it is a key point to constructe a model with higher realistic and smaller file size at the same time. Different methods were used to model sky, buildings, sports fields, trees and sculptures, to achieve high realistic models. The balance between a higher realistic and a smaller file size has acquired.(2)The system was reached two methods of interactive roam to user:autonomous roaming and switching points of view roaming. It shows corresponding two-dimensional and three-dimensional scene, and navigation picture is avoided consumer to lost himself in the sense. The system controls automatic door's open and close using ProximitySensor, TimeSensor, and PositionInterpolator nodes. Collision detection is controlled by collision node. The system simulates natural sound and video display by sound node.(3)The subfiles were put into the virtual scene, using texture reduces modeling, proto nodes, the range of viewpoint, and inline node, in order to achieve optimization of the scene and make the system loading fast.(4)This thesis researches on design, overall flowchart, and method, using vrmlpad editor to make models, using 3ds max to make complex models. It achieves high realistic campus scenes, multimedia show, viewpoint change, scene roam and collision detection and finally the system embeds the sense to the web page.This thesis researches on the correlation technique about the interactive virtual campus based on network, searching how to improve high realistic campus scene at the moment of network transmission rate, and it accomplishes the virtual campus system.According to the results, the technology is practicable, and the system has high realistic campus scenes and run well.
