With the development of road and the increasing of traffic flow, better methods are needed for monitoring vehicle speed and identifying the overspeed targets. Radar technology is widely used for speed measuring due to its high accuracy, high reliability and long measuring distance, etc. Traditional methods in traffic monitoring radar have the problem that it can not distinguish the overspeed target from several parallel vehicles. This thesis firstly introduces the research background, development status and principle of speed measuring radar. Secondly, two methods of monopulse angle measurement are discussed, and an overspeed vehicle identification method by magnitude-comparing is put forward based on the results of the previous discussion. Thirdly, the basis theories of DBF (digital beam forming) and DOA (direction of arrival) in array signal processing are studied, and two methods, which use the principle of DBF and DOA, respectively, are put forward to solve the overspeed objects identification problem. Finally, the several parallel vehicles model is built and the proposed methods are simulated based the model, the computer simulation results show that these methods can successfully distinguish the overspeed vehicle from multi-objects and solve the problem above.
