Polarization array radar is a new radar system and it has many advantages. Monopulse angle measurement method for polarization array radar has been studied in this paper. In detail the research includes method and performance of monopulse angle measurement of single target, in noise jamming and of two closely spaced targets:For polarization array radar monopulse angle measurement of single target, two monopulse angle measurement methods based on polarization fusion or polarization matching has been proposed. The angle measurement performance of this two methods has been analysed. The relation between performance and several factor, such as SNR, target angle, echo polarization, has been shown by simulation. Simulation and theoretical analysis show that polarization array radar has an advantage on arbitrary single polarization array and performance of angle measurement is unrelated to echo polarization because of making full use of echo polarization.For polarization array radar monopulse angle measurement in noise jamming, a monopulse angle measurement method based on polarization filtering has been proposed. The relation between angle measurement performance and several factor, such as SIR, angle separation between target and jamming, polarization difference of target and jamming echo, has been shown by simulation. Simulation and theoretical analysis show that this method can achieve good angle measurement performance in noise jamming outside beamwidth, but is not good in noise jamming within beamwidth beacause of using only one echo data.For polarization array radar monopulse angle measurement of two closely spaced targets, maximum likelihood estimation has been derived. To find maximum likelihood estimation better, gradient method and Levenerg-Marquardt method have been proposed. Simulation show not only the MLE of angle of two targets but also MLE of polarization parameter have been determined by the two methods.The research has solved the problem of monopulse angle measurement in polarization array radar in principle, and can also provide a reference for polarization array radar angle measurement engineering practice.
