In Network Environment Mass Media Articulate On Public Events

In recent years,series of public events fermented from citizen's personal misfortune via Internet or mass media report, in 2009 such events become more and more frequent, with the catch-word of these events on Internet these events spreaded to a huge range.Take the frame theory for instruction, in network environment the process of public events reported by mass media is also a news reality construction process,this research take the "Duomaomao" event for example, analyse in network environment, the construction process of personal misfortune to public events by the report of newspaper which represent the traditional media.The research found in network environment,the process of mass media report on public events is a "collective definition" behaviour between the interaction of Internet and mass media:via the report,media construct the symbolic significance from personal misfortune,the symbolic significance go through with the the common social psychology,then huge numbers of netizens participate in the event discussion on the Internet,these opinions reported by mass media as public issues,then personal misfortune become the social public events. By analyse the construction and spread process of the public events on the mass media reports, the research found the "collective definition " influenced by these factors:the frame of the traditional mass media,the sharedfeelings of netizens which based on the common social psychology,and the government's response activities,these impact based on social system, culture, value specification;in the discourse analysis of the reports,the "collective definition" behaviour act as a process of opinion negotiation,which represented by discourse conflict in mass media text.In the process,The traditional media morely perform as a social facilitator role.These found will be useful to know the public character of traditional media in network environment,also,will be useful for the government crisis management.
