At present, the rural market system is not particularly perfect and still remains a few problems need to be settled. Among these, the safety and quality of farm products are most critical and important. All kinds of fake commodities are flooding into the rural market, not only gave a lot of economic lose to the consumers, but also endangered serious healthy growth of rural market. And it will be not conducive to the long-term development of China's agricultural economy. The low level of management informationization and regimentation in the circulation of agricultural products is one of the important reasons which caused the problems above. Therefore, increasing the level of rural market informationization, strengthening rural market information management will be important methods to improve the structure of the rural market in the future.This paper is a part of the agricultural products quality as well as traceability system, and the aim is to develop special equipment for the rural retail products - a practical multifunctional electronic scale based on embedded system. Most of the current commercial electronic scales centered on low-end microprocessor, which lead to the singleness of its functions. In this issue, the electronic scale will be a typical embedded system, with 32-bit ARM chip (S3C2410) as its CPU, Linux as its OS and MiniGUI as its embedded user interface. Besides the base functions of traditional electronic scales, it also has the two-dimensional bar code printing function. And this function is also an important part in the realization of the agricultural products quality traceability system.This paper presents an in-tegrated design plan for the embedded system. Firstly, it gives an introduction about characteristics and the current development status of the embedded systems; Secondly, it gives the overall design idea of the system, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of current embedded processors after embedded operating systems and GUI support systems compared with each other and separately discussed in this paper. Those determine the current software platform of the embedded system; Thirdly, it introduces the way to set up the system development environment on PC; Fourthly, it introduces in detail of its establishment of the software operating platform, including the steps of BootLoader porting, Linux kernel porting, Linux file system making, Linux driver development and MiniGUI custom development environment porting; Finally, it discusses the design and development of software above and the application as modules with the functions of the system.
