HSUPA is a new kind of radio access technology in WCDMA system for improving the uplink bit rate and system capacity. It is another important development of WCDMA standard, following the HSDPA. The introduction of HSUPA technology will greatly enhance the uplink transmission rate and improve the network performance. The power control is a guarantee for the WCDMA system from theory to practice. Under the premise of assuring the QoS of users, how to conduct power control effectively, reduce system interference thereby increasing the system capacity and improve the uplink transfer rate, is the key to WCDMA technology.The main research of this paper is interrelated technology of physical layer in HSUPA. It introduces the key technology and some newly dedicated physical firstly. Following it mainly researches the power control algorithm based SIR estimation and uplink outer-loop power control algorithm. According to analyzing disadvantage of original algorithm, present a new algorithm, and compares the two SIR estimation arithmetics on the link performance by simulation. Based on the result of the simulation, it can been seen that the improved SIR estimation arithmetic is much better than the original. On the other hand, for the introduction of the new HSUPA uplink dedicated physical transmission channel, in accordance with 3GPP protocol provisions of the agreement, we configure the power offset factor of E-DCH and test in the practical system. At last we got a reasonable tested present and received a higher upload speed, provided an efficient uplink open loop power control method.
