Mobile IP is an integration of mobile communications and Internet technology, it has an attractive prospect. Mobile IP technology, take full advantage of the IP protocol inherent support for mobility, it provides a good mobile network solution. However, the process of handover is an important factor that influences the performance of the network in Mobile IP.In this thesis, the technical principles of mobile IPv4 and mobile IPv6 are analysed and expatiated. The advantages and disadvantages of mobile IPv4 and mobile IPv6 are compared. This thesis focused on the popular two pairs of standard mobile IPv6 protocol extensions to handover scheme: FMIPv6 and HMIPv6. In the basis of analysis, a novel and integrative handover scheme, F-HMIPv6 is introduced. In the F-HMIPv6 scheme, FMIPv6 scheme can be absolute operated in HMIPv6 scheme. The advantages of FMIPv6 and HMIPv6 are combined effectively.The simulation work is completed by the NS-2 tool. The results of theoretical analysis and simulation show that the handover optimization solution to achieve simple, reliable, and its performance is better than traditional methods.
