In China there are a large number of small and medium-sized cities, in which traffic congestion have become more and more severe. Traffic flow control technique fitted with those cities has become a popular topic in both control domain and traffic engineering domain. With the fast development of automatic control technique, computer technique, communication technique and artificial intelligence, new theory and research achievements about traffic control have been published in recent years. Intelligent control systems have achieved significant effects in practice.In this dissertation we mainly study and analyze traffic control technology oriented small and medium-sized cities. On basis of traffic characteristics in these cities, the technology of bus priority is discussed from spatial and temporal points of view. Moreover we propose distributed road network traffic intelligent coordination control technology with bus priority, in which fuzzy theory is adopted due to heavily non-linear, randomness, time-varying and uncertainty of traffic control systems. Simulation analysis and application results show that the algorithm is more feasible and more effective to solve the traffic problem in small and medium-sized cities.The main work of this dissertation is as follows:1,We design the buses detection and position system depending on signal pole location technology. Furthermore the architecture and workflow are described in details. We also propose a variety of traffic flow programs with bus priority depending on the traffic characteristics in the small and medium-sized cities.2,An intersection fuzzy signal control method with bus priority is presented. The buses are given a priority spatially by the bus-only lanes and the bus-priority approaches. Meanwhile, the buses are given a priority temporally by the traffic signal control algorithm with bus priority.3,A distributed road network traffic intelligent coordination control technology with bus priority is proposed. We achieve the traffic coordination control and bus priority in the network through the information exchange between intelligent signal controllers which are set in adjacent intersections. Furthermore we improve the utilization efficiency of the green light based on phase sequencer.4,We design the actual traffic optimization program in detail for Zhongxing Road in Shaoxing City. Corresponded the traffic situation and road conditions, we design the traffic control programs respectively which include the dynamic two-direction green wave intelligent control technology, bus priority technology and road network coordination control technology. Then we descript the system structure, control programs and equipment needs fully. At last we describe the expected results, evaluation criteria and the actual results after the coordination control technology implemented in practice.
